Protypo Dialysis CenterPatra, Greece

The lighting design for the Protypo Dialysis Center in Patra successfully balances strict technical and economic requirements, delivering a premium result within budget and on time. Inspired by the building’s linear architecture, the design integrates continuous lines of light and extensive indirect illumination to soften the atmosphere and reinforce the center’s identity. The main objective was to create a clean, professional healthcare environment that feels welcoming rather than cold or clinical.

Inside the center, the lighting is carefully tailored to each zone to balance patient comfort and medical functionality. In the reception area, concealed linear wallwashers highlight a vertical garden to create a calming, natural feel, while three minimal suspended rings add warmth to the space. The treatment rooms feature indirect cove lighting to offer patients a relaxing experience, paired with direct perimeter lighting that provides sufficient illumination for the medical staff. Corridors are softly lit with indirect fixtures, and the offices are equipped with direct/indirect pendants featuring anti-glare diffusers for optimal visual work comfort. Externally, continuous LED profiles accentuate the facade and sunshade structures, defining the center’s nighttime identity.

To foster a more welcoming environment, warm white 3000K LEDs were chosen instead of standard clinical 4000K sources. The entire system is DALI dimmable, allowing user-friendly intensity control crucial for patient relaxation and energy efficiency. Every space was optimized through detailed photometric simulations, ensuring the perfect balance between high-end performance and minimized operational costs.

For this exceptional lighting design, Prolight was honored with the SILVER Lighting Design Award, Interiors Awards 2023.
