ON Residence Hotel in Thessaloniki wins the SILVER Award in Lighting Design Category at the Ιnteriors Awards 2023.

Located on Thessaloniki’s seafront, ON Residence occupies the historic building of the former “Olympos Naoussa” restaurant. PROLIGHT was selected through a design competition to undertake the lighting design and supply for this landmark property, which involved the full restoration of a listed neoclassical building and its vertical expansion by five additional floors.

The lighting concept aimed to preserve the building’s heritage while introducing a refined, contemporary atmosphere. Warm diffuse light, dimmable retro-inspired fixtures, and integrated architectural lighting elements were used to balance historic and modern features. The lobby and restaurant feature soft ambient lighting, while the bar was designed with higher contrast and a more decadent tone, including integrated lighting behind the bar and rechargeable table luminaires by Matteo Thun.

Guestrooms are equipped with recessed downlights, indirect lighting, USB-enabled reading lights, and discreet courtesy lights for nighttime orientation. Decorative lighting in brass and bronze tones adds a layer of understated luxury, while bathrooms feature linear concealed lighting and IP44 wall lights in bronze finishes.

All luminaires include high-performance LED chips (CRI90+) with precise optical control to minimize glare, using a mix of 2700K and 3000K temperatures depending on material palette and function. The lighting control system enables guests to select from predefined scenes—task, relaxation, full or night light—via intuitive keypads, ensuring maximum comfort and energy efficiency.

Photometric simulations were conducted for all areas, supported by full-scale mock-up rooms that defined the final lighting scenes. Throughout construction, the PROLIGHT team collaborated closely on-site to adapt to the complexities of a listed structure.

This project utilized PROLIGHT’s integrated Design & Supply service, combining lighting design expertise with direct supply of top-tier fixtures, ensuring aesthetic cohesion, technical excellence, and on-time delivery within budget.
