The lighting design and supply by PROLIGHT for The Grand by Interni restaurant and outdoor pool bar area at Grand Hyatt Athens was honored with the Bronze Award at the 2022 Lighting Awards.

Located on the rooftop of the Grand Hyatt Athens, The Grand by Interni merges gastronomy and high-end design into a space that is both elegant and casual, with a superb bar and panoramic views. The design emphasizes atmosphere and interior details, combining modern and exotic elements, while nature plays a central role in creating an urban garden feel that expresses effortless luxury. The rooftop view—especially from the side-glass pool area—is striking and ideal for private dinners and events.

Inside the restaurant, the architectural lighting includes recessed spotlights integrated into the high wooden ceiling grid. A mix of narrow and wide beams ensures targeted lighting on tables, accentuates columns with extra narrow beams, and adds a layer of diffused light that casts playful shadows through the woven ceiling pattern, mimicking the ambiance of a tropical forest.

The central bar is a vibrant focal point, illuminated with three layers of LED strips. Decorative fixtures with woven textures and diffused lighting enhance the tropical concept, adding color and blending harmoniously with the natural materials.

In the outdoor area, detailed specifications and execution were key. The architectural concept included linear grass-filled slits around the pool, through which lighting would emerge without obstructing the view of the Acropolis. Custom linear IP67-rated fixtures by Nexia (Spain) were pre-wired and factory-sealed for easy installation. Special drainage systems were co-designed with the architect and contractor to avoid water pooling in the slits.

Covered outdoor areas feature discreet mini spots installed on pergolas and ground-mounted luminaires to highlight structural elements. The pool lighting consists of numerous small underwater fixtures with narrow beams, offering visual contrast without glare, regardless of the guests’ seating.

All fixtures use high-quality CRI90+ LEDs and are DALI dimmable. Multiple lighting scenes were programmed depending on the time of day, table arrangements, or type of event. The maître d’ can select and adjust lighting scenes easily via a tablet app.
